My fish, admittedly, don't have names. We have too many, and they die too quickly. But anyway, I took Henry to play with the fish today. The one pictured below I think should be called Gini. Today in economics we went over the Gini coefficient - a measure of income distribution equality (or most likely, inequality) of a country. I think my fish represent this rather well. In terms of mass, and let's face it, importance, us human beans are much more significant than them. However, especially in the Winter months, they always have a very warm environment to swim around in and enjoy. They never run out of food, and they even have a regular cleaner (my sister) who visits. If only that could be said for our actual home! In Winter, because no one is at home, our house is usually freezing. We quite often run out of (edible) food, and the concept of tidying up is completely non-existent. There is severe inequality in this household. Those tropical fish do nothing to contribute, yet get all the luxuries they could ever dream of.
